"Thirty-four years of fire and medical calls has proven to me that the first hour of medical aid is the most important. Those of us that work in the emergency services refer to this as the 'Golden Hour.' This first hour is when the response personnel need all the medical and personal information they can obtain on the victim so that they can make the best decision for proper medical care.

This is why I support the ICEcard for everyone. The ICEcard can supply much of the information that will give the first responder that important information needed to administer the proper medical aid. The life you save my be your own or someone you love."

- Marshall Goddard, Fire Battalion Chief Ret., Santa Barbara County, Calif.

I would never leave my house without the ICECard. In my opinion, everyone needs this."

"Accurate information about medical conditions, medications and allergies is crucial to the emergency physician in cases where the patient is unable to provide information.  The ICEcard can make a difference in the care your physician provides by avoiding potentially life-threatening drug interactions, allowing timely contact of family members to aid in medical decisions, and avoid your doctor having to make important medical judgments on incomplete information. "My father is a Type 1 Diabetic and suffered an episode of low insulin while driving. Low insulin can sometimes cause Diabetics to act drunk or high and even be combative. He was pulled over for driving erratically and then was not cooperative with the officers due to his low insulin levels. Thankfully, the officers saw his ICE information. Instead of being taken to jail, the officers called for medical attention and he was treated quickly at a local hospital. Low insulin can be a life threatening condition in and of itself, let alone with driving and police officers involved. I hate to think what could have happened had the officers mistook his condition for something else."

"My sister and I share care of my mother who has been diagnosed with dementia. While she is still relatively independent and has many “good” days, we are always concerned about the possibility of her getting lost or confused.  We purchased several ICEcards and put them in her wallet, purse and favorite sweater pocket . It is our hope that if she were ever to get in trouble, someone would easily come across the ICEcard and understand her condition and how to reach us.  It gives me and my sister piece of mind to know that if our mother ever needs us, there is a good chance that someone will come across the ICEcard so she can be treated properly and we can be by her side as soon as possible."
